New Post From James Gunn Stirs Speculation Over Possibility Of Martian Manhunter Appearing In Upcoming DC Films

The new depiction of the Man of Steel is just under a year until it makes its way to theater screens. With the release coming up, director James Gunn has been teasing more and more about the film, and one recent post in particular sparked speculation among fans.

Gunn posted a picture, which will be linked below, of one of the props from the film: a box of Oreo-esque cookies dubbed Chocos. Longtime DC fans know Chocos to be DC’s answer to Oreos.

However, one comic run made Chocos more to the world than just the answer to its real life counterpart. One Justice League member in particular, Martian Manhunter, became a fan of the cookies in Justice League International.

While Martian Manhunter isn’t currently among the confirmed heroes to be appearing in Gunn’s Superman, ComicBook.com points out that the inclusion of Chocos has led many fans to speculate if he’ll make his appearance earlier than anticipated.

The upcoming Superman isn’t the first time James Gunn has helmed a superhero project. Back in 2014, Gunn directed Guardians Of The Galaxy, and would go on to direct its two following sequels. Even before taking over DC’s film multiverse, he took up a project of theirs when he brought The Suicide Squad to audiences.

Superman flies into theaters July 11th, 2025.
