While it is true that Idris Elba will not be the next James Bond, fans of the British born actor will still get to see him in an action movie. Elba is set to play the antagonist in Hobbs & Shaw, a spinoff movie of the Fast & Furious franchise. With his deep voice and large stature, Elba is probably a good choice for this role, and he has proven himself with his previous villainous performances.
Currently not much is known about the film’s plot other than it will be following the adventures of Fast & Furious characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, played by action stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, as well as Shaw’s sister, played by Vanessa Kirby. According to an article on Screenrant, Idris Elba’s character is called Brixton, and he will be the one battling against Hobbs and Shaw.
Dwayne Johnson posted a photo to his Instagram account of Elba on the set. This photo is our first look at Elba as Brixton. In the photo’s caption, The Rock had nothing but praise for Elba.
The film was written by Chris Morgan, who is a veteran of the Fast & Furious franchise, and is being directed by David Leitch, known for directing Deadpool 2. Hobbs & Shaw is set for a release date of August 2, 2019.
