Ever since the first trailer for the upcoming superhero film, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, came out months ago, many fans have been anticipating more footage or information about the context of the film in the storyline of X-Men films. Wednesday brought the release of the film’s second trailer which gives more insight into the events of the movie poised for release this summer.
Being the 12th installment of the X-Men franchise and with there being removal of canon story from previous films, the state of the overall plot is a bit jumbled. Dark Phoenix is the fourth X-Men film focusing on younger iterations of the characters and takes place about a decade after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse, to which it is a direct sequel. It will follow the heroes traveling into space and being hit with a solar flare, thereby causing team member, Jean-Grey, to lose control of her abilities and unleash the “Dark Phoenix” into the world.
As seen in the trailer, this installment will have mostly familiar faces (along with a few newer ones) as it stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. A lot of the snazzy special effects and high tension action that will drive a wedge between many of the X-Men and Women is shown as the Dark Phoenix is let loose. The film will be the directorial debut of American filmmaker Simon Kinberg, who also penned the screenplay. X-Men: Dark Phoenix will see a release in theaters on June 7th later this year and the trailer can be checked out below.
