New Look at Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s Skills In New Clip For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

As part of a closer look at Marvel/Disney’s box office smash Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which released wide on Friday, the MTV Movie Awards Takeover offered viewers an exclusive new look at Peter Quill/Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt, in Marvel/Disney’s upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy. Apart from a glimpse of Quill’s ability to slip out of a tough spot, we get a strong sense that this movie is going to be a roller coaster ride of laughs and solid action.

In this new clip, we get a longer peek at Peter Quill’s run-in with Djimon Hounsou’s Korath the Pursuer as he attempts to take possession of fancy little orb, which no doubt plays a large role in the flick. (It’s been noted this orb could be one of the Infinity Stones as first mentioned in Thor: The Dark World. ) Pratt demonstrates here that the half-alien Peter Quill/Star-Lord is cunning and quick on (or off) his feet as he cleverly makes his escape through a wall in full gear (helmet and all).

Guardians Of The Galaxy is directly in line with the rest of the Marvel band of movies’ exciting settings and cool gadgetry. The first trailer teased our senses with the introduction of a new unlikely band of superheroes that spell a rare combination of comedy, cunning, and deadliness. This new enhanced character view tells us again how the film will set itself apart from all the rest. Peter Quill has a who-the-hell-is-this-guy reputation that he seems to use to his advantage. We’re betting this unique character trait is one adopted by the whole ‘Guardians’ team.

It’s worth noting, as the first trailer also hinted, Peter Quill seemed less worried about escape and more worried about name recognition. A much-loved character with very similar traits comes to mind: Captain Jack Sparrow, famously played by Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (though we’re speaking specifically about the first film). We’ll have to see if Chris Pratt can win over audiences in the same manner as the charming and daft Peter Quill/Star-Lord.
