New Line has acquired the rights to the comedy The House penned by Neighbors writers Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, with Will Ferrell (The Lego Movie) set to star and produce. Ferrell plays a father who, along with his wife, blows their daughter’s college fund and have to make it back by illegally running a casino out of their home.
Ferrell’s producing partner Adam McKay is attached to the project. Cohen will make his feature directorial debut. With Neighbors being a hit for Cohen and O’Brien last summer, New Line reportedly fought hard for the script and is ready to movie this into production as soon as this August, so that it can be released in the summer of 2016. The pair is also working on the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates with Neighbors star Zac Efron and comedian Adam Devine (TV’s Workaholics) as two brothers who take out personal ads to find wedding dates. The pair is also working on a sequel to Neighbors.
