Those viewers of last night’s Emmy Awards telecast who resisted the urge to skip through all the commercials were rewarded with a nice treat, as Fox used the opportunity to debut a new spot for David Fincher’s upcoming Gone Girl. Readers of the book know there is more than meets the eye, but for the uninitiated this new trailer presents the story of a husband (Ben Affleck) who is the prime suspect when his wife (Rosamund Pike) goes missing and is presumed dead. In a move that will surely generate a lot of discussion upon the movie’s release, even readers of the book will be in for a surprise, as Fincher has reportedly deviated from the novel’s ending. Fox will release the film on October 3rd. This is Fincher’s first feature film since 2011’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Previous versions of the trailer were covered by mxdwn here and here.
