The next part of the Demon Slayer series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has hit theaters across the US. Along with its stateside debut comes another record breaking opening, specifically when it comes to anime movies.
Serving as a continuation of the anime series, Infinity Castle follows the main group of characters trying to continue their ongoing fight when they encounter the Infinity Castle, containing a demonic threat like they’ve never seen before.
Demon Slayer, like many other anime, isn’t a stranger to silver screen outings. Infinity Castle is the latest of many recent big screen adventures for Demon Slayer, and each release brings plenty of fans out.
Hollywood Reporter noted that in its Friday release, Infinity Castle made a whopping $33 million. Original projections had the film somewhere in the ballpark of $40 million, depending on the source, but the final total for the weekend could go as high as $65 million.
With the total that it ends up with, Infinity Castle will not only set a precedent for the next Demon Slayer films to follow, but will also claim a record for big screen anime outings, as its set to become the biggest stateside debut for an anime film.
