In a new clip of Atomic Blonde, Charlize Theron (Snow White and the Huntsman) showcases her combat skills. Setting the stage for the thriller directed by David Leitch, Theron fights back against a group. Theron is said to be playing an assassin on a secretive but crucial mission. Already, this clip establishes her character as a clever and adaptive fighter, turning the objects around her (such as a frying pan and freezer door) into weapons.
This in not the first time that Theron has fought her way across the screen. In fact, she has already proven herself as a talented actress in the realm of action-heavy films. In 2015, she played Imperator Furiosa in George Miller‘s film, Mad Max: Fury Road. Her character quite literally drives the action of the film by commandeering a rig, rebelling against the film’s dictatorial villain, Immortan Joe. As Furiosa, Theron engaged in physical combat throughout the film, against Max himself (Tom Hardy) as well as Immortan Joe and his War Boys, who are so devoted to his cause that they consider it the greatest of honors to “die historic on the fury road” in his service. It seems that this prior experience has allowed Theron to keep on improving her craft in extremely physical roles. Theron has continued to evolve as actress, choosing challenging and varied projects, even winning an Oscar for her role as Aileen Wuornos in Monster.
The film also stars Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: the Secret Service) and James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class). Boutella will also be playing the titular Mummy in the upcoming Mummy film (releasing on June 9th).
Atomic Blonde is scheduled for release later this summer on July 28th.
