Following the January release the first official trailer, Summit Entertainment has divulged another teaser for its upcoming crime drama Child 44. This wave of publicity features three posters showcasing the lead players: Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, and Gary Oldman.
More visually dynamic than the movie’s original poster revealed in January, this set of images still retains the stark and solemn nature of the production, while adding a sense of immediacy with the slash of red across the actors’ profiles. Whether this is a nod to traditional Soviet colors versus the obvious (but still unnerving) shade of blood is up to the viewer to decide.
Child 44, in theaters April 17th, is a period drama chronicling the investigation of 44 murdered children along the train tracks of the Soviet Union in the year 1953. Sparked by the death of his friend’s child, MGB (a precursor to the KGB) agent Leo Demidov (Hardy) must unravel the dark and twisted case of a serial killer while maintaining fragile relationships with his wife Raisa (Rapace) and General Nesterov (Oldman).
Child 44 is based off of Tom Robb Smith’s novel of the same name, and Rapace (Prometheus) describes the movie as “very much a character drama.” Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directed the project, which was shot in the Czech Republic, with Ridley Scott (Prometheus, Exodus: Gods and Kings) producing.
