Six new character posters have been released via Empire for the final installment in the Wright/Pegg/Frost Cornetto trilogy, The World’s End. These character one-sheets are the newest promotional materials since the the landing of the second trailer a few weeks ago.
The film’s premise revolves around five childhood friends who return to their hometown after 20 years in order to finish an epic pub crawl that they failed the first time around. The poster features these five friends (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Martin Freeman, and Paddy Considine), plus the movie’s female lead (Rosamund Pike).
Though the posters promise a fiery, apocalyptic setting, they also display some of the witticism associated with Wright’s previous works. Each sheet features a name of one of the pubs as a description to the character being referenced. So Pegg’s bad boy Gary is ‘The Famous Cock.”
And, as evidenced in the latest trailer, each actor appears to be playing against type. Pegg is usually the straight man when paired with Frost. Frost is associated with being the offish sidekick, but here he plays the lawyer teetotaler. Freeman, who gained fame for playing the anti-work Tim in the U.K.s The Office, plays a bluetooth-wearing real estate agent in The World’s End.
The film was written by Pegg and Wright and is expected to feature cameos from the previous Cornetto installments. The World’s End hits cinemas on July 19 in the U.K. and August 23 in America.
