Scream 5, the latest installment in the iconic Scream franchise, might be getting it’s leading lady back as she is actively having conversations to return.
The franchise, created and directed by horror icon Wes Craven, has been dormant for the last decade after the director’s unexpected passing. A new scream movie was announced to be in development early this year, but fans were unsure if Neve Campbell, the franchise star most known for her role in the movies as Sidney Prescott, was going to return. She had previously been bullish on returning after Craven’s death, but it looks like the new creative team has peaked her interest enough for them to talk about it, “I originally had been really apprehensive about doing another Scream without Wes because he was such a genius and he is the reason they are what they are but the directors have come to me with such a great appreciation for Wes’s work and they really want to honor it and that meant a lot to me.”
The creative team behind the movie, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, had previously made waves in the horror community for their work on 2019 surprise hit, Ready or Not. A big enough impression in fact, that they are having conversations about her return.
Whether Campbell returns is to be seen, but this is hopeful step in the right directions for fans who want to see her and ‘Ghostface’ on the big screen again.
