Netflix’s ‘Society of the Snow’ Receiving Major Recognition And Setting Records

Hitting Netflix’s Top 10 most popular titles, J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow now holds the record for the second-biggest non-English language movie in hours watched. Hailing from Spain, the film may score a nomination for Best International Feature at the Academy Awards. The film has received over 51 million views in just 11 days on the platform. In hours watched over the first four days, the film was beaten by Norway’s Troll, and in views, it was beaten by Spain’s Nowhere regarding non-English films on the platform.

Society of the Snow has been longlisted for Best Film Not in the English Language at the UK’s BAFTAs and shortlisted at the Oscars for International Feature Film, Makeup & Hairstyling, Original Score, and Visual Effects.

At September’s San Sebastian Film Festival, Bayona’s film won the Audience Award and set the record for the highest rating the award has ever received. Society of the Snow has also been nominated for a whopping 13 Goya Awards, which include Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best New Actor (Matías Recalt). The film has also won 2 European Film Awards: one for Best Makeup & Hairstyling and the other for Best Visual Effects.

At the Golden Globes, Society of the Snow was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, and at the Critic’s Choice Awards, the film received two nominations for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Score.
