Netflix Releases Teaser For Bradley Cooper-Directed ‘Maestro’

Netflix has released its trailer for the upcoming biopic Maestro. Directed and written by Bradley Cooper, the film is set to be released by the end of the year on both Netflix and in theatres.

The project was announced in 2020, almost immediately after Cooper’s launch in his directorial debut A Star is Born, where he played the role of grizzled country star Jackson Maine alongside his co-star Lady Gaga. Maestro took time to develop, but the general public will experience Cooper’s portrayal of famous 20th Century composer Leonard Bernstein, known for his work in West Side Story and On the Waterfront.

While there are no solid details about the plot, the teaser trailer reveals a possibly unique look into Bernstein’s life through the use of film techniques, including shifting color scales from regular to black-and-white and incredible aging makeup. The teaser focuses on Bernstein’s relationship with his wife and political activist Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan, as they navigate their tumultuous lives in the past and present.

The rest of the cast will include Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Michael Urie, and Matt Bomer. Though their roles are currently unknown, their inclusion does give rise to anticipation, especially with Stephen Spielberg and Martin Scorsese producing the film alongside Cooper.

The film is set to be released on September 2 in competition at the Venice Film Festival. Eventually, it will be released in select theaters on November 22 and finally on Netflix on December 12/20.
