Netflix has officially become the number one source of television in the U.K. The global streaming giant recently passed £2.06B in revenue in the country, or $2.81 billion. That means it has generated more income than ITV, the country’s leading broadcaster. Channel 4 and Channel 5 lie below that, with little hope of catching the streaming juggernaut.
Netflix’s revenue grew 11.3% from the £1.85B posted in 2024, which is attributed to a 7% growth in customer base, as well as “higher average monthly revenue” per customer. Earlier this year, Ofcom’s Media Nations report revealed Netflix was the service people most clicked on when deciding what to watch. This was above YouTube, ITV and BBC. The number was most prominent in the 16-24 age range.
The news will be brought to attention at the final Edinburgh Television Festival this week in the Scottish capital, where all the major streamers and broadcasters discuss the future of the industry. Adam Hawkins, Netflix UK’s Doc Series head, is this year’s advisory chair.
