Netflix is making more changes to its streaming platform as it’s running a test to remove the affordable plans. The change includes preparing customers to pay extra for accounts that are outside of the household and additional plans with and without ads. As the streaming market becomes more competitive, many streaming companies are making ways to increase revenue and subscribers, and ads are the answer to the problem. Companies use this knowledge of using ads to accomplish their goal, which leads the customers with an option of watching ads or paying to watch ad-free.
Netflix announced back in November of 2022 that it was getting rid of its basic plan which is $10 a month and comes ad-free. The plan was the lowest cost on the Netflix streaming platform, but those who’ve already subscribed to the basic plan can keep it. Unless the customer changes their plan or closes their account, they won’t have the option to choose the basic plan again since Netflix is removing it. The same is happening to the Canadian market as ad-free plans are disappearing. The remaining options are the standard plan with ads at $7 a month, the ad-free standard plan at $15.50 a month, and the premium plan at $20 a month.
