Ben Ripley, the writer of one of the most popular time-travel films in the past decade, Source Code, isn’t quite finished with trippy science-fiction just yet. Netflix has acquired the writer’s spec script titled Parallel, which is said to be a sci-fi heist film that takes place across parallel universes.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the film involves “a man and a woman who traffic in high-end crimes in parallel universes suddenly meeting, a development that threatens their boss. Determined to outrun their fates, they fight across these different realities to find one where they can both survive and be together.”
Ripley has also written the 2014 drama Boychoir, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates, as well the Elliot Page-led 2017 remake of Flatliners. He’s also working on an announced sequel to the aforementioned Source Code, and recently wrote sequel to Air Force One which is currently in development with Sony and Beacon Pictures.
There’s no director or cast currently attached to the film, but with Ripley at the helm, there’s already hope that we’re in for a mind-bending and thrilling crime adventure. His script for Source Code in 2007 got him a spot on that year’s Black list, an annual list of the best unproduced screenplays.
