Neon Acquires Rights To Apocalyptic Thriller ‘She Dies Tomorrow’

Neon has gained rights to the apocalyptic thriller She Dies Tomorrowwhich was set to make its world premiere in Austin at the SXSW festival before it was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak fears.

The picture is directed and produced by Amy Seimetz and will be her second feature film as director and writer. She was nominated for two Gotham Awards for her directorial debut film Sun Don’t Shine at the SXSW in 2012. She is also the co-creator of Starz series The Girlfriend Experience.

The thriller stars Kate Lyn Sheil, who has frequently collaborated in Seimetz’s projects. Sheil plays Amy, a woman ravaged by the notion that she is going to die tomorrow, which sends her down a dizzying emotional spiral. When Amy’s skeptical friend Jane (Jane Adams) discovers Amy’s feeling of imminent death to be contagious, they both begin bizarre journeys through what might be the last day of their lives.

Neon will announce release plans for She Dies Tomorrow in the near future. The distributor’s name may be familiar for many audiences. Neon has recently saw its release of South Korean feature Parasite garner mass critical acclaim and dominate the 2020 Oscars. The Bong Joon Ho-directed thriller took home Best Picture along with three other awards, and grossed $53.3M at the domestic box office. The distributing company has also released notable film I, Tonya. 

Neon stated to Deadline that Seimetz “is a bold new voice, and with the groundbreaking She Dies Tomorrow has easily created one of the most prescient films of the decade” and that they are “thrilled to be able to bring this unique and incredible SXSW premiere to audiences all around the world.”

In response to Neon acquiring rights to She Dies Tomorrow, Seimetz said she was “very proud to be joining the illustrious Neon family. Tom Quinn has impeccable taste and has also been at the forefront of innovative theatrical and digital distribution for many years” and looks forward to collaborating with Quinn and the Neon team on sharing the apocalyptic story to the audiences.
