Variety has announced that actor Neil Patrick Harris will be joining the cast of upcoming, highly anticipated The Matrix 4. Harris is of course well known for starring in TV shows like How I Met Your Mother and Doogie Howser, M.D. and for appearing in movies like Starship Troopers, Gone Girl, and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle in which he played a heterosexual parody version of himself. He is also well remembered for starring in the web show Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog where he got to show off his glorious singing talent.
Harris is not the only new comer, because Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, of Aquaman fame, is joining the cast as well.
At this time very little about the plot of The Matrix 4 has been revealed, and it is currently unknown exactly what roles Harris and Abdul-Mateen will be playing. We don’t know if they will be playing villains or heroes or what the chances are of Harris getting his own show-stopping musical number.
However we do know that actress Carrie-Anne Moss and America’s sweetheart Keanu Reeves will be returning to reprise their roles as Trinity and Neo respectively. There is some discussion about getting Jada Pinkett-Smith to return to the series as well. Pinkett-Smith originally played the character Niobe, who was a rebel ship captain and a possible love interest of Morpheus. At this time Pinkett-Smith’s involvement in The Matix 4 has not been officially confirmed, but it would be interesting to see her return to the franchise.
Also a fun bit of trivia about The Matrix is that Jada Pinkett’s husband Will Smith was originally considered to play Neo in the original The Matrix, but he turned in down in order to star in Wild Wild West.
The Matrix 4 will be written and directed by Lana Wachowski and is scheduled to begin production in 2020.
