

Ne Zha 2 breaks a record in the international box office as it becomes the first film to ever gross $1 billion in a single market. The sequel to 2019’s Ne Zha was released in China on January 29th and is estimated to gross $1.1 billion through today, according to Moayan. With these numbers, this title is currently the 7th animated film ever globally. Furthermore, it is projected to make $1.65 billion in its full run in China, and achieving that number would move Ne Zha 2 from the 7th overall to the 2nd animated feature ever globally. Ne Zha 2 could be projected to break more records with its rollout in other markets this week, including the U.S., where it will be released on February 14th.
While preparing its big release in North America on February 14th, Paddington in Peru has grossed $100 million abroad with an additional $7.5 million from 53 markets this weekend puts the estimated total around $104 million. Elsewhere internationally, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King was the number one title again, adding $8.5 million from markets including Brazil, France, Germany, Mexico, and Spain. Concurrently, DreamWorks’ animated feature Dog Man expands to 12 more markets, 41 in total, with the global total release currently estimated at $66 million.
