NBC To Air 50th Anniversary Screening Of ‘Jaws’ With Steven Spielberg Introducing on June 20th

NBC will air a special screening of Jaws for its 50th anniversary, with director Steven Spielberg introducing it, Variety reports.

Premiering on June 20th, 1975, the horror thriller, an adaptation of a novel by Peter Benchley, made Hollywood history, becoming the highest-grossing movie at that time and transitioning the industry from the New Hollywood movement to the current blockbuster era.

Now, 50 years to the day of its release, Jaws will air over a three-hour block on Friday, June 20th, starting at 8:00 p.m. ET. with Spielberg introducing.

NBC’s parent company, Universal Studios, has other plans to celebrate the film over the summer as well. These include themed baseball home games from July 20th through the 22nd, with custom scoreboard content, fan giveaways, and other activities, the film and its three sequels will air on Universal’s streaming platform, Peacock, from June 15th to July 14th, an anniversary home release combo pack that includes 4K, Blu-ray, and digital on June 17th, a theatrical re-release on August 29th, and a National Geographic documentary, Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Story, about the film’s production from documentarian Laurent Bouzereau on July 10th, as well as new merchandise releases.

NBCUniversal Chief Marketing Officer Jenny Storms spoke about the celebration activities, saying,

We want to celebrate 50 years of this enduring film that has captured the public imagination for generations by bringing it to audiences at home in all the ways they love to watch.

Directed by Spielberg, Jaws was written by Carl Gottlieb and starred Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw, and Lorraine Gary.
