Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Colman Domingo Hop Aboard Jordan Peele’s ‘Candyman’

 

Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Colman Domingo become the latest actors to join the cast of the upcoming reboot of the horror classic Candyman which has commenced principal photography this week in Chicago according to Deadline. Supervised by Jordan Peele, Candyman will be distributed by Universal Pictures and is slated to be released in the U.S. on June 12, 2020.

Domingo and Stewart-Jarrett are joined by the recent onboarding of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II of Us and Teyonah Parris of If Beale Street Could Talk. The film will be directed by Nia DaCosta coming off the heels of Little Woods and will serve as a spiritual sequel to Benard Rose’s 1992 Gothic horror film which was originally derived from Clive Barker’s short story The Forbidden. The film will primarily be shot in Chicago as well as locations throughout Illinois. The film will even feature the exact neighborhood where the legend of the “Candyman” originated from, which is Chicago’s North Side where the Cabrini-Green housing projects initially stood.

Stewart-Jarrett rose to prominence particularly in his roles on British television series Misfits and Utopia. Last year Stewart-Jarrett starred on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning revival of Angels In America. Domingo who is a Tony and Lawrence Olivier-nominated actor and playwright is renowned for his role as Victor Strand on Fear the Walking Dead.
