The action comedy American Ultra, starring Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Kristen Stewart (On the Road) enlisted a new cast member. The Wrap reports Connie Britton has joined the cast of the Lionsgate film. The 4-time Emmy nominee takes over for Sharon Stone, who had to drop out of the indie comedy due to scheduling. Interestingly the part was originally ear-marked for Uma Thurman, however the Kill Bill actress never officially signed on for the part. American Ultra is expected to hit theaters sometime next year.
American Ultra, the latest from director Nima Nourizadeh (Project X) from a screenplay by Max Landis (Chronicle), is a high concept comedy centering around Mike (Eisenberg), a stoner burnout, whose life is turned upside down when he discovers he’s actually a highly skilled sleeper assassin. Stewart plays he girlfriend Phoebe, a reunion for the Adventureland co-stars and Britton will portray Victoria Lasseter, a government agent and head of Mike’s agency. The ensemble is rounded out by Topher Grace (Interstellar), Walton Goggins (Django Unchained), John Leguizamo (Chef), Bill Pullman (Independence Day) and Tony Hale (Veep.)
Britton is currently starring on the ABC drama Nashville and has built up a steady stream of cred in recent years thanks to her critically acclaimed performances in the first season of Ryan Murphy’s FX anthology show American Horror Story and the NBC drama Friday Night Lights (adapted from the 2004 film, for which Britton also appeared in.) Britton has also co-starred in the recent films The To-Do List (playing mother to Aubrey Plaza) and Seeking a Friend For the End of the World (opposite Steve Carell). She will next co-star in Shawn Levy’s comedy This Is Where I Leave You co-starring opposite Jason Bateman and Tina Fey.
