Naomi Ackie, who played the leading role in Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice, and in the Whitney Houston biopic I Want to Dance With Somebody, as well as supporting roles in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the recently released Mickey17, is in talks to play the female lead in DC Studios’s Clayface. The movie is set to follow the titular DC character, played by Tom Rhys Harries, who is an actor who, after having his face disfigured, undergoes an experimental medical procedure that then transforms him into a clay-like being who can morph and shape himself into looking like other people. The news was first shared by Variety.

The film is set to lean more towards body horror, as it’ll be directed by horror filmmaker James Watkins, with a script by Hossein Amini and horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan. It’ll also be a testing ground of sorts for DC Studios, as it’ll be their first attempt at making a smaller-scale, smaller-budget comic book movie with a tone unlike most other comic book movies, a strategy James Gunn (the head of DC Studios) hopes to take for many DC Studios releases.

The film is set to be released on September 11th, 2026. It’ll be DC Studios’ third release, following the recently released Superman and Supergirl, starring Millie Alcock, which will be released in June 2026.
