EXCLUSIVE: mxdwn Movies has the pleasure of unveiling to you a clip from the upcoming movie, A Thousand Junkies. Produced by The Orchard, which is known for movies like Thelma and Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople; the movie follows many successes for the studio.
Directed by Tommy Swerdlow (Child’s Play), who penned the script along with TJ Bowen, the film centers around a group of three people who struggle with substance abuse. Their addiction ultimately shapes the plot, as together they make a road trip across the City of Angels to find the source of their cravings. The clip below also helps exemplify their chaotic journey, which keeps getting interrupted by wild events along the way that certainly don’t help in their goal.
The film will also feature Bowen and Swerdlow, who play characters sharing their first names. Bill Pullman (Independence Day), Dennice Cisneros (Exile), Patricia Castelo Blanco (Charming), and starring performer, the late Blake Heron (Shiloh), will also act in the movie.
Though the topics within A Thousand Junkies are quite real and poignant, they are in the right hands, as they come in the wake of Bowen, Heron, and Swerdlow’s difficult true-life experiences together in recovery and addiction. The film, which is designated as a studio-described “black comedy” will have a much richer tone by combining the classic and well-paired elements in comedy and tragedy, which often need each other for more equilibrium.
The exclusive clip, called “Broken-down car” can be viewed below.
The wait to see the film is almost finished! A Thousand Junkies will premiere in video on-demand very soon, starting on January 30th.
