MXDWN had the privilege of attending the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic Con. The panel was moderated by Kevin Feige and included a large cohort of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, including: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Shawn Levy, Ryan Coogler, Ryan Gosling, Jon Bernthal, David Jonsson, Anthony Mackle, Chris Evans, David Harbour, Danny Ramirez, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer Lewis Pullman, Paul Rudd, Pedro Pascal, Rebecca Romijn, Robert Downey Jr., Simu Li, Tenoch Huerta Mejia and Winston Duke.
One of the major casting announcements for the night was Hayley Atwell returning as Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday. Joining the cast in the capacity crowd of Hall H, fans saw Atwell on the big screen. It is easy to wonder how her role in the film will be affected by Chris Evans’ return as Steve Roger, with our last glimpse of these characters being at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.
With Ryan Gosling’s name being connected to Ghost Rider for years, Marvel made an official announcement of his casting during the panel. He thanked everyone, especially director Shawn Levy, who is slated to direct the upcoming Ghost Rider project. This will be the back to back times Gosling and Levy team up, with their upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter set to debut in 2027.
Jon Bernthal made an appearance onstage in preparation for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will be releasing on July 31, 2026. This transitioned into an exclusive inside look teaser. The teaser focuses on Spider-Man and The Punisher, with Spider-Man expressing frustration to Frank Castle as he takes over the battle between a split-personality Hulk.
When Pedro Pascal was on stage, he was probed into any past relationship canonically between Mister Fantastic and Dr. Doom, to which Pascal replied with a simple “besties!”
During the Doomsday trailer, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm can be heard speaking to the Avengers. “Victor has always been the smartest guy in the room. He used to be different. He used to be kind. He used to be caring. And then everything changed. Everything he loved was taken from him. I knew he was lost, but did not realize he was broken.”
“Victor, did you do this? Answer me Victor, did you do this?” Mister Fantastic asks Doctor Doom in the trailer. Clips intertwined with Doom fighting with Thor, Dr. Doom kneels onto the ground, posing to make his presence known. The trailer also included Shang-Chi and Gambit in battle, Scott kissing Cassidy on the forehead, Steven looking at his newborn child, different X-Men characters taking up the screen and Dr. Doom’s connection with Reed and Sue. The film connects with Doom’s past and his connection with two members of the Fantastic Four crew. Ryan Reynolds also made a surprise appearance in the crowd as Grey Deadpool.
“Hell answers to me for I am Doom.” Dr. Doom says to Thor after he attempts to attack him.
The final major news of the night was the confirmation of Black Panther 3, with Ryan Coogler coming on stage to announce he is officially returning to complete his trilogy. It was even confirmed that part of the film will be shot on film, and with the current craze over Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in IMAX 70MM, it is safe to say that fans can already start getting excited. David Jonnson (The Long Walk) will be the lead in the film as he takes on the mantle of Black Panther, coming on stage to debut the major news. The release date has been set for December 15, 2028.
