Trey Parker (South Park, Despicable Me 3), Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland, Rio), Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski, Iron Man), Zoey Deutch (Set It Up, Before I Fall), Christoph Waltz (Frankenstein, Dracula) and Allison Janney (The Help, 10 Things I Hate About You) were added to the cast of Minions & Monsters via Deadline. The film focuses on the minions and their journey to overthrow Hollywood and release monsters into the world as they try to save the world around them. Phil LaMarr (Futurama, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends) and Bobby Moynihan (The Secret Life of Pets, We Bare Bears) are in the cast as well.
The last Minions film was directed by Pierre Coffin (Sing, Hop) as he has a history of working with the Despicable Me franchise and the first Minions movie. Coffin and Brian Lynch (Big Hellium Dog, Puss in Boots) drafted the screenplay as Coffin is also an executive producer for Minions & Monsters. The film is being produced by Chris Melendandri (The Lorax, Migration), who is the CEO and Illumination’s founder, and Bill Ryan (Home Alone, 101 Dalmatians).
Melendandri shared kind words about the film,
The Minions have always had a wonderfully subversive spirit and Minions & Monsters delivers a full dose of irreverence and comedic mayhem. Pierre and his Illumination team have brought a level of artistry to the film that has thrilled me all throughout production. The voice cast is filled with exceptional talent. The film’s story is unexpected and delightful, and perhaps the most lovely surprise is how Minions & Monsters serves to honor cinema, its origins and the comedians who are the original inspiration for these adorable little guys.
Park and Eisenberg were nominated for an Oscar as the former was nominated for Best Original Song and the latter was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. Janney won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the film I, Tonya. Bridges won Best Actor for his performance in the film Crazy Heart. Waltz has won two Oscars that were both for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. He won in 2010 for the film Inglourious Basterds and won in 2013 for Django Unchained.
