Rami Malek (TV’s Mr. Robot) has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming indie mystery Buster’s Mal Heart, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film follows an eccentric mountain man (Malek) on the run, living in empty vacation homes where he’s haunted by a strangely realistic dream where he is a man lost at sea. The dream seeps into reality and he is faced with being alive in two bodies. The film also stars Kate Lyn Sheil (House of Cards), DJ Qualls (The Man in High Castle) and Toby Huss (TV’s Halt and Catch Fire).
This is Malek’s first lead film role. Prior to being the breakout star of Mr. Robot, Malek was a character actor known for his work in the Night at the Museum series, The Master, and Short Term 12. No other projects have been announced for Malek.
This is also only the third film for director Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim). She also directed one of the segments in the horror anthology Holidays. Her film The Midnight Swim followed a group of siblings exploring the mystery of a lake in which their mother drowned.
The film is currently in pre-production with no release date set at this time.
