Netflix has just announced their plans to adapt the popular comic series, Tokyo Ghost, into a movie. According to Screen Rant the movie will be directed by Cary Fukunaga, who directed Beasts of No Nation, and adaptation of Jane Eyre, and the latest James Bond movie No Time to Die.
The Tokyo Ghost comics were published by Image Comics and the series was written by writer Rick Remender, drawn by artist Sean Murphy, and colored by colorist Matt Hollingsworth. The series ran for 10 issues, which were first released in September of 2015, but apparently the comic’s ending remains unfinished. The plot of Tokyo Ghost is set in the year 2089 and is set in a cyberpunk world of a future Isles Los Angeles that is infested with gangsters. Society has devolved to become addicted to technology and entertainment. The comic’s main characters are named Debbie Decay and Led Dent, and the two work as peacekeeping constables.
At this time there is not a lot of information out about this movie, and no casting announcements have been made. However it has been revealed that the movie will be developed by Legendary Entertainment, and the company Parliament of Owls will also be producing the project.
