After a long wait, the first-ever Mortal Kombat trailer is officially coming soon. The trailer will be released tomorrow, Thursday, February 18th, at 9am PT. Before this, New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers have only shown footage and selected screenshots from the trailer.
The live-action reboot is directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by The Conjuring’s James Wan. The film is based off of the popular video game franchise of the same name, and this will be the first Mortal Kombat movie since 1997, after the critical failure of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Now, over 20 years later, Mortal Kombat is finally coming back to the big screen, and hopefully it will be worth the wait. The film has an ensemble cast, including Lewis Tan (Into the Badlands), Joe Taslim, Jessica McNamee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Chin Han, Ludi Lin, Laura Brent, Mehcad Brooks, and Josh Lawson. According to Screen Rant, the reboot is staying true to the game, as many signature fighters will appear, including Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kano, Raiden, and Kung Lao. Tan’s character, Cole Young, will be the brand-new addition to the franchise.
Mortal Kombat is set to premiere on April 16th, both in theaters and for streaming on HBO Max.
