‘Morbius’ Film to Take Place In MCU Spider-Man World

Sony Pictures Entertainment‘s upcoming comic-based supervillain film Morbius is reportedly confirmed to take place in the same reality as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Besides Morbius, Sony has also developed several projects based on characters from the Spider-Man comics but not necessarily the MCU Spider-Man, including Venom and Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse. Fans of the MCU can anticipate that references of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in Morbius.

The plot of Morbius remains ambiguous, but fans need not wait any longer. The trailer is expected to release on January 13 at 6 AM PST. For those unfamiliar with his character, Morbius will most likely tell the origin story of the Michael Morbius, a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who suffers from a rare blood disease. He attempts to cure himself but instead becomes afflicted and turns into a horrifying superhuman-vampire hybrid.

It has already been confirmed that the titular character will be played by Jared Leto, who also appeared as  the Joker in Suicide Squad. Based on the screenplay written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa and is supposedly more of a horror film than anything else. Fans have been updated with behind-the-scenes images of Leto during the filming process, as well as other information about the movie since its production was confirmed back in 2017.

Morbius is expected to hit theaters on July 31, 2020.
