‘Moana 2’ Breaks Record With Advanced Ticket Sales

Disney’s Moana 2 set records with its high number of first-day advance ticket sales. It has officially sold more tickets than any other animated film in 2024. It has even beat out the Disney summer blockbuster Inside Out 2. The phenomenon is now being dubbed by box-office enthusiasts as the “Moanapocalypse.” The film’s box office showing is the fourth best of the entire year, trailing behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked, and Dune: Part 2.

The trailer for Moana 2 was released in late May. It received a record-breaking 178 million views in the first 24 hours, the highest number of views that a Disney film trailer has ever received in such a short time. It appears that the love for the franchise continues, as evidenced by these views and its advanced ticket sales.

Moana 2 is set to be released the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, on November 27. It will be sharing the box office with films like Gladiator II and Wicked. Theaters are betting on these three films to bring in heavy sales after a shaky start to the third quarter. Considering that the original Moana, which came out in 2016, grossed just over $687 million globally, the theaters are probably right to anticipate high profits from Moana 2’s release.
