Tom Cruise has his new mission, and it just hit theaters. After years of trouble and tribulation, Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One has finally hit theaters, and it’s already made a name for itself.
Originally set for a July 14th release, the film was pushed up by two days to try to beat out the competition, opening to fantastic pre-shows. The previous installment, Mission: Impossible-Fallout made $6 million in its pre-shows, but the newest pulled in franchise high of $7 million according to Hollywood Reporter.
Since theaters reopened after the COVID-19 pandemic, Tom Cruise has been a front-running advocate for theatergoing. Cruise had pushed for Top Gun: Maverick to be theater release, and refused to let it go just to streaming. It later went on to pull in $1.49 billion worldwide and held the top spot at the domestic box office for 2022. Most recently, he talked about his plans to see the upcoming films Barbie and Oppenheimer, and even congratulated Harrison Ford on coming back as Indiana Jones.
The new Mission: Impossible faced a share of setbacks due to COVID-19. Filming had been shut down at least five times, and both Tom Cruise and director/writer Christopher McQuarrie contracted the disease. On top of that, the audio of Cruise having people keep to the guidelines made the rounds on the internet.
Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One is now playing in theaters, and stars Tom Cruise, Rebeca Ferguson, Haley Atwell, and Ving Rhames.
