‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Trailer Reveals Tom Cruise’s Return In ‘The Final Reckoning’

Tom Cruise in 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning'

The first trailer for Mission: Impossible 8 has officially dropped, revealing the movie’s subtitle as The Final Reckoning. Initially intended as the second part of 2023’s Dead Reckoning, it now stands on its own as the saga’s concluding chapter.

The trailer delivers the intense action fans expect, with Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt, who scuba dives into a sunken submarine, flies (and falls out of) a biplane and engages in intense hand-to-hand combat. Picking up after the events of Dead Reckoning, Ethan Hunt faces off against The Entity, a menacing AI that can predict his every move and cause global chaos. The trailer suggests Ethan will continue pursuing The Entity, now hidden aboard an old Russian submarine. But his mission will be challenging as he is also hunted by Gabriel, a dangerous adversary played by Esai Morales.

Joining Cruise in the cast are returning actors Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell and Vanessa Kirby, with newcomers Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Katy O’Brian and Nick Offerman. Angela Bassett also returns as CIA Director Erika Sloane, a role she first took on in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who previously helmed Rogue Nation, Fallout and Dead Reckoning, the film also has McQuarrie returning as co-writer and producer.
