2011’s Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol has left some big shoes to fill. With production approaching on Mission: Impossible 5, the film will have the task of following up the franchise’s biggest critical and commercial hit, not to mention the highest grossing film of Tom Cruise’s career. In order to accomplish such a feat, the Impossible Mission Force will need to assemble a strong cast of characters.
With Cruise, Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg all confirmed to return, the project seems to be off to a strong start. Alec Baldwin (To Rome with Love, NBC’s 30 Rock) is reportedly in talks to play the head of the CIA, while Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules, BBC’s The White Queen) has already been cast as the female lead.
Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, screenwriter for The Usual Suspects) will direct the film from a script by video game scribe Will Staples (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Need for Speed).
Mission: Impossible 5 is expected to release on Christmas Day 2015.
