War Dogs, based on the Rolling Stone article “Arms and the dudes”, follows the true story of two twenty-something men who obtain a $300 million contract from the U.S. government to arm American allies in Afghanistan. The title is known as a derogatory term to describe those who profit from war without ever stepping foot on the battlefield.
The movie stars Miles Teller (Whiplash) as David Packouz and Jonah Hill (21 Jump Street) as Efraim Diveroli, two former junior high best friends who reunite to make fast money in the international arms race. Teller goes from being a massage therapist to Hill’s partner in semi-crime in this comedic action thriller. As the trailer reveals, it aims to tell the story of the American Dream from a more corrupted capitalist perspective.
Hangover III‘s Todd Phillips directed the pic based on a screenplay written by himself, Stephen Chin, and Jason Smilovic. Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) and Ana de Armas (Knock Knock) also star in the film. War Dogs bows in theaters on August 19. Check out the trailer below which sees an immediate comedic chemistry between Teller and Hill.
