Mike Colter Joins Cast of Sci-Fi ‘Extinction’

Mike Colter (Netflix’s Luke Cage) is the latest actor to join Universal and Good Universe’s Extinction. The sci-fi thriller stars Michael Peña (Collateral Beauty) and Lizzy Caplan (TV’s Masters of Sex). Ben Young (Hounds of Love) will helm from screenplay by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (Arrival), Spenser Cohen and Bradley Caleb Kane.

The story centers on a man (Peña) with a recurring nightmare that he will lose his family. His worst fears come true when aliens invade Earth with intentions to destroy the planet. He discovers his own strength in fighting to save his family. Caplan will play his wife. Colter’s role has yet to be announced.

Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman of Mandeville (Beauty and the Beast) will produce alongside Anna Halberg. Mandeville’s Alexander Young, Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake of Good Universe will executive produce.

Colter stars in Netflix’s Luke Cage and will reprise his role of Cage in Marvel’s The Defenders TV series, which premieres on August 18th. He has been prolific on the small screen, appearing in several TV series including Agent X, Jessica Jones, The Good Wife, The Following, Halo: Nightfall, American Horror Story, and Ringer. On the big screen, he appeared in 2015’s America is Still the Place.

Extinction is currently in pre-production and will roll out in theaters on January 26, 2018.
