‘Midsommar’ Director Ari Aster’s Next Movie Will Be Crazy

Director Ari Aster burst unto the horror scene with his 2018 feature debut Hereditary, terrifying audiences with its depiction of a family in dealing with generational trauma. Aster then proved himself to be no fluke with his sophomore effort Midsommar, a horror movie about a Swedish cult that serves as a deeper metaphor for toxic romantic relationships. Now, the director has hintsedthat his next movie will be even crazier in an interview with Reddit AMA.

While Aster has proven to be one of the kings of ‘elevated horror,’ he intends to pivot from his unique brand of chills and thrills with a couple of unique ideas for the third movie, “Next one will either be a zonky nightmare comedy or a big, sickly domestic melodrama,” he added. “It might take me a few movies before I wind back around to [horror], but I love horror and I’m sure I’ll be back.”

Aster certainly has the talent to move into other genres, with Hereditary being known for it’s heartbreaking dramatic elements and Midsommar having a wicked sense of humor to go along with it’s white knuckle terror. We’re sure that whatever he does next, it will be amazing, even if it ends up over 4 hours long like he intends, literally saying “All I know is that it’s gonna be four hours long.”
