Age of Adaline‘s Michiel Huisman looks to be cementing his standing as a romantic lead when he takes on Irreplaceable You. He is set to star in the film opposite Belle‘s Gugu Mbatha-Raw, according to Variety. Veep producer Stephanie Laing is directing the feature based on a script by actress Bess Wohl. This will be both Laing and Wohl’s first feature film in the director’s and writer’s chair, respectively.
Little is known thus far about the project aside from this short log-line: “The film follows Abbie and Sam, soul mates who were destined to be soulmates until death got in the way.” Production on the film will begin sometime in March. Abushwesha is producing the movie with The Exchange handling international sales.
Mbatha-Raw’s resume continues to grow as she adds Irreplaceable You to her growing slate of upcoming releases. She will soon be appearing in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, the Cloverfield sequel God Particle, and another Disney property A Wrinkle in Time. Her previous credits include Beyond the Lights, The Free State of Jones, Miss Sloane, and Concussion.
After racking up several guest-starring television roles on Orphan Black, Nashville, and Game of Thrones, Huisman earned leading man status after appearing opposite Blake Lively in The Age of Adaline. Since then, he has booked Guernsey with Lily James (Cinderella), 2:22 with Teresa Palmer (Hacksaw Ridge), and will be starring in The Ottoman Lieutenant next month.
