Thriller veteran Michelle Monaghan finds new leading role in Brad Anderson’s new psychological thriller, Blood. The story follows Jess, a separated mother and nurse who moves back into her old family farmhouse with her daughter and young son Owen. Soon after settling in, the family dog bites Owen, giving him a mysterious infection. When Jess discovers the disturbing cure, she is tested on the lengths she’ll go to keep her child alive.
Monaghan has a history of work in the thriller genre. She played Maggie Hart in the first season of HBO’s True Detective alongside Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. Monaghan also starred in the 2016 Boston Bombing drama, Patriots Day, and the 2011 sci-fi thriller, Source Code.
Anderson’s previous films include the 2018 action thriller Beirut, which starred Jon Hamm and Rosamund Pike. Anderson also directed The Machinist, where Christian Bale famously lost 60 pounds for the lead role. The script for Blood is written by Will Honley, who also helped pen the announced sequel to Escape Room.
Monaghan also stars in the upcoming Blumhouse reboot of the 1996 film The Craft, directed by Zoe Lister-Jones. Earlier this year she starred in the first season of Messiah, a Netflix series where she plays a CIA officer tasked with investigating a man who his followers believe is a divine entity.
