Michelle Obama Netflix Documentary Set for May 6 Release

A new Michelle Obama documentary is set to be released on Netflix on May 6 of this year.

The documentary, Becoming, is centered around Michelle Obama’s best selling 2018 memoir of the same name. The film takes viewers through her 34-city book tour in 2018, where she shared her personal story of both successes and failures. Becoming has been kept secret for months by Netflix, but it’s part of the lucrative deal between the former president and first lady’s production company Higher Ground and Netflix. The documentary is directed by cinematographer Nadia Hallgren and will be distributed through Higher Ground.

“Those months I spent traveling — meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe — drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with,” said Obama in a statement. “In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams. We processed the past and imagined a better future. In talking about the idea of ‘becoming,’ many of us dared to say our hopes out loud.” (Entertainment Weekly)

The worldwide release of Becoming amid the coronavirus will hopefully provide a light in these trying times. We, and Mrs. Obama, surely hope so. Check out the trailer below:
