Michel Gondry’s French-language Mood Indigo has released a new clip, complete with artful music and classy romance. The film is a Parisian fantasy circulating on a relationship between Audrey Tautou (Amelie) and Romain Duris (L’Auberge Espagnole). Based on the novel by Boris Vian, Mood Indigo was released at film festivals last year and is headed to a limited theatrical release beginning July 18 in New York and Los Angeles before touring through a number of other cities over the next few months. (You can see if and when it’ll be coming near you here.) We’ve just seen the film, so check back soon for our thoughts on the latest from the director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Be Kind, Rewind. The version being released in the U.S. features new cut of the film that’s about 30 minutes shorter than the festival version. Rest assured, however, that it’s lost none of the colorful and absurdist flair that’s already been on display.
The clip (below) provides a glimpse of some of the first flirtations between the charming Chloe (Tautou) and wealthy Colin (Durmis). This love match will undergo severe complications when a flower starts growing in Chloe’s lungs. The question that is posed is, will Colin find a cure for the beautiful Chloe?
In addition to Tautou and Duris, players in this ensemble include Gad Elmaleh (Midnight in Paris), Omar Sy (The Intouchables), and Aissa Maiga (Cache).
Break out the cocktails and get ready to step into a French fantasy. Mood Indigo opens in theaters this July 18th.
