In stunning news late last night, filmmaker Michael Moore announced that his new documentary Planet of Humans will be free to view on Youtube for the next 30 days. The documentary, directed by Jeff Gibs and produced by Moore, will explore the new devastating effects of climate change and how “the environmental movement has lost the battle through well-meaning but disastrous choices, including the belief that solar panels and windmills would save us, and by giving in to the corporate interests of Wall Street” according to the film’s official press statement.
Planet of Humans released last night in order to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Like many films, it was originally slated for a wide release later this year after premiering at Traverse City Film Festival last August, but was delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The filmmakers cited their rational for releasing the documentary now was in hope of sparking a conversation about “the role humans and their behavior have played in our fragile ecosystem.”
Planet of the Humans marks Jeff Gibbs’ directorial debut, having been a previous collaborator on a number of Michael Moore’s projects, producing Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11. You can watch the documentary at this link.
