Michael Dougherty to Direct ‘Godzilla 2’

Michael Dougherty, writer of the first and now the second Godzilla films in the Legendary/Warner Bros. reboot of the monster movies, has been tapped to also direct Godzilla 2.  The Krampus director has penned both scripts with Zach Shields (his Krampus collaborator). After months in the writer’s room, Legendary extended the offer for Dougherty to also direct.

Back in October of 2015, Legendary linked up with Warner Bros. for the future distribution of all Godzilla and King Kong films, starting with Kong: Skull Island in March. The company has been aiming to create their own monster universe, and has planned a re-team of the two famed monsters for Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.

Until then, the sequel Godzilla: King of Monsters is set for release on March 22, 2019. No cast has been set at this point.
