Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy acted as the co CEOs and chairman of the overall film division of Warner Bros. With Paramount Skydance’s takeover of the studio imminent, De Luca and Abdy are out.
The $111 billion merger will go through on October 6, with the mega studio now set to go by Skydance. With Abdy and De Luca’s positions being deemed excessive under the merger, sources close to the pair have said they have spoken to Netflix about their futures. The pairs tenure also began in 2022, and has seen plenty of highs and lows, including One Battle After Another, Sinners, The Minecraft Movie, The Bride!, and most recently, Digger. They both came from MGM, working there for 2 years before the studio was acquired by Amazon Prime Video. Their early days saw them inheriting Toby Emmerich’s slate of films, which included Dune, Barbie, and Mickey 17. It’s hard to believe each of them will not find a new home, as they are known to be director friendly and understanding of the critical balance between major IP and auteur-driven smaller films.
