Michael Cera appears to be in talks to join Aaron Sorkin‘s forthcoming directorial debut Molly’s Game. If plans come to be, the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star would join Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba in this poker bio drama based on the real-life experiences of Molly Bloom; the film is adapted from her memoir Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break this news.
Bloom, to be portrayed by two-time Oscar nominated actress Chastain, was a once Olympic-level skier who became an organizer for underground poker games enjoyed by members of the Hollywood elite – the likes of Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire reportedly attended these games. All of this came about once Bloom’s athletic career came to an end and she ended up as a Los Angeles cocktail waitress, eventually rising through the poker social circuit. The games eventually came to an end after Bloom was arrested by the FBI. Cera is reportedly being courted for the enigmatic role of Player X, a celebrity poker aficionado who has a curious relationship with Bloom.
Cera can currently be heard in the naughty animated hit Sausage Party and also lent his vocal styling to the upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie. His next live-action turn will be Captain Dad starring Will Ferrell and Catherine Keener. Sorkin last penned the script for Steve Jobs, for which he earned a Golden Globe Award; the iconoclastic writer won an Oscar for The Social Network.
