Michael C. Hall Lands Lead in ‘Cold in July’

Michael C. Hall as Dexter

Michael C. Hall is set to play the lead in the upcoming film Cold in July, based on Joe Lansdale’s 1989 cult crime novel. Lansdale is known for his work with DC Comics as well as his hundreds of published texts, ranging from Westerns to sci-fi. Cold in July will center on protagonist Richard Dane (Hall) who kills a man that he finds intruding in his house and the complications that this death sparks. The movie will be directed by Jim Mickle, who has previously directed four rather unknown films, making this Hall-centered movie his biggest directorial project to date.

Hall is best known for his role as the world’s most charismatic serial killer in Showtime’s Dexter, which will embark on its final season at the end of June. He is also developing and executive producing American Dream Machine, a Showtime adaptation of Matthew Spektor’s novel that focuses on a talent agent father and his two sons as well as the tribulations of Hollywood. Hall has appeared in films such as 2010’s Peep World and 2013’s Kill Your Darlings; he was the lead in the 2011 drama The Trouble with Bliss, which received mediocre reviews. Cold in July seems like a promising transition for Hall from esteemed television killer to a possibly renowned film killer.
