Michael Bay and former Paramount production chief Adam Goodman are teaming up for a pandemic-themed thriller set to premiere next year titled Songbird. Specifically a coronavirus-themed one.
Songbird takes place two years from now, and envisions a hypothetical scenario where the coronavirus has still not gone away in the United States. On the contrary, it’s only gotten stronger as the virus continues to mutate. Lockdown precautions, like what we see now, are still in place. Apart from that, the film’s plot is currently unknown.
While casting is still underway, Adam Mason of Hulu’s Into the Dark will serve as director of the project. Additionally, Mason co-wrote Songbird’s script with Simon Boyes, who previously wrote the screenplay for Misconduct.
Songbird is set to begin production in 5 weeks so, hopefully after social distancing, precautions will have lightened up to allow for filming. That being said, most of the social distancing guidelines will still be in place, and Bay’s production team has not revealed how the film will be shot.
Bay and Goodman will produce Songbird along with Eben Davidson under the banner Invisible Narratives. Unlike Bay’s other films, this will not be a big-budget film but rather follow in the vein of more low budget thrillers like Paranormal Activity. Whether or not explosions are involved in the film have yet to be confirmed.
