Late last year, it was reported that Creed star Michael B. Jordan was in talks to direct the third film, Creed III, in the soft-reboot of the Rocky franchise. However, today it has been announced officially by MGM that Jordan will indeed helm the film. Alongside that announcement, it was confirmed that the film will be released in November of 2022.
This will be the third director to helm the relatively new franchise, the first being Ryan Coogler, the second Steven Caple Jr., and now the film’s star Michael B. Jordan. However, this is nothing new in the totality of the Rocky franchise. As Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone, directed and wrote most of the franchise.
The announcement is a fantastic step in Michael B. Jordan’s already booming career. It is so refreshing to see actors growing through the industry, and being able to make their directorial debut while they’re acting is certainly an exciting cherry on top.
Creed came out in 2015 and reinvigorated the Rocky franchise that had been largely dormant for the past decade. In 2018, Creed II was met with similar love, but did not garner as much of the buzz of the first one.
This is certainly a film to look out for now that Michael B. Jordan is officially starring and directing Creed III, which will be released on November 23, 2022.
