Marvel Studios announced David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus, The Long Walk) as T’Challa II for the upcoming Black Panther 3 at San Diego Comic Con earlier this week. Naturally, the world wanted to know how Oscar-winning actor and Black Panther veteran Michael B. Jordan thought about the casting.
The actor was asked at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere what he thought of David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, and he simply said, “Oh, love it. It’s amazing. I can’t wait, can’t wait.” Jordan, of course, played Killmonger in Black Panther and also appeared in a cameo role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
After Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing, Letitia Wright’s Shuri took over the mantle of Black Panther in Wakanda Forever. She will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday and possibly Avengers: Secret Wars. T’Challa II, who was teased in the post-credits scene of Wakanda Forever as T’Challa’s son, will now be played by David Jonsson and presumably become the next Black Panther. It is unclear how they will explain the sudden jump in age, as T’Challa II was still a toddler in Wakanda Forever. More questions will likely be answered in Avengers: Doomsday, which comes out on December 18.
Black Panther 3, directed by Ryan Coogler, hits theaters on December 15, 2028.
