First Trailer For ‘Children Of Blood And Bone’ Showcases Star-Stacked Cast And Epic Fantasy World

Paramount Pictures' 'Children of Blood and Bone' (2027)

Paramount has released the first trailer for Children of Blood and Bone, an epic fantasy tale based on the best-selling novel of the same name. Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King, Castlevania: Nocturne) stars as the lead, Zelie. The supporting cast is filled out by many big-name actors, including Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Damson Idris (F1), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Backrooms).

The film is set in pre-colonial Africa, where the fictional kingdom of Orïsha hides magic in its roots. The land is ruled by the oppressive King Saran, and it is up to Zelie to restore magic and order to the kingdom. The novel was written by Nigerian American writer Tomi Adeyemi and is the first book in the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman KingThe Old Guard), and she also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Adeyemi.

Interestingly, Adeyemi stated she was distancing herself from the project earlier this month. On TikTok, she said, “There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That’s all.” She also said, “Since someone asked, I have not seen the film, and I will not watch it.” She did not give any specific reasons as to why she was distancing herself.

Children of Blood and Bone hits theaters on January 15. Watch the full trailer below.
